More shootiness

Tonight I have some more shootiness for you all. These guys were painted pretty quickly when 8th ed came out so I could take advantage of the shoot in two ranks rule. They were originally in black armour to mach with the rest of the army, but after I decided on a scheme change I painted them metal. I also added the second rank.
After the first game I played with them I was so impressed by how effective 20 crossbows were I added a second unit. :)
All I've had to do to get these guys ready is magnetizing the bases ready for the game.

A murder of crows

So when I opened up the latest case I was confronted by one or two more Assassins, well ok, maybe it was a few more :P.

I set about bloodying the weapons up, frosting up the bases and adding the magnetic sheet to them. Now some of these were painted about 15 years ago, and are definitely showing their age. But they will all find a place in the game in 4 weeks. Aaargh only 4 weeks left.

Another day another update

Another day another update, not much today, but don't let that fool you. Over the last two days I've been pretty busy, so should have quite a few photo's coming over the next week.

First up, another Sorceress. Now this little lady has a funny story, the local GW had asked to borrow some of my army to go into the cabinet (going back a few years here) and this Sorceress was one of the minis I lent them. I went back after a week of them being in the window and noticed she had been removed. Apparently a kiddies mother had seen the succubus familiar on the base and complained about it. Saying that it was too rude for her son to see. And so she had to be removed. A little over the top if you ask me, but then not everyone appreciates the same things. :P
We also have a couple more Assassins, these have been bloodied up to show the Khainite theme.

So much to do, so little time

So less than a month to go till the big game and I still have a fair bit to get sorted, but fingers crossed I'm going to be done.

Today we have a refit to another old regiment, these guys started off as the old mono-pose Dark Elf Swordsmen, they didn't rank up, and they just looked terrible. We had a visit at the local GW by a guy from the GW head office who was all about simple conversions. So I took down some of these models. After a bit of discussion with him I came up with the idea of creating a unit like these. Now they were made to represent Dark Elf Pikemen, I know they weren't a proper unit, but I liked the idea (and DoW were about at the time)

For the revamp, I've repainted the armour silver to match the rest of the army, added some new shields, magnetized and rebased them.

So much to do, so little time...

Blood for Khaine

Did I mention Khainites, well tonight I have a unit of Executioners. Yes they are Executioners, some of you might not have seen them before but they are. They are some of the original ones from 5th Ed that were only released at Games Day in the US. It took me a while to get them together but I did and here they are. Or should I say here are some of them, I do have a unit of 30, but some of them seem to have gone AWOL, they're probably in another case somewhere but I suppose I'll find them as I work through them.

These guys were painted a while ago again, and I've given them a little touch up, re-base, magnetized of course, and added the blood to the blades, to identify them as Khainite troops.

Hope you like them.

More Monsterousness

Is it Monday already, wow doesn't time fly. Well for today's update I thought I'd add a few more monsters, you can never have too many monsters can you. Well not in a Karond Kar themed Dark Elf army.
These Hydrae were painted a couple of years ago, I wanted a fast effective scheme for them, something that would fit in with the army, but look different enough to stand out on the table. I looked at the pictures in the books and decided that the green schemes just didn't look that nice, so was drawn to the Shadow Grey one.

I think I painted both Hydrae up in the one day, so the scheme was pretty fast to do, and I like the way they look. Using Shadow Grey/Space Wolves Grey a lot in my force manages to tie them into the rest of the army, but being mostly grey means they do stand out.

A little bit of shooty stuff

So I figured I should get a few shooty bits ready for our game. The Dark Elves have some of the deadliest ranged troops in the game, and the psychological effects of rolling so many dice when shooting has a great effect. (I use big dice so I can barely hold them all)

These minis were some of the first Dark Elf ones I bought, oh so many years back. They have been repainted a number of times, and have seen countless battles. These 40 Crossbowmen will be the first part of my ranged support in the army.

A little more magic

With our upcoming mega-game a Storm of Magic game, one thing we are going to be needing is a few wizards.

With that in mind I was really wanting to get my hands onto the new Dark Elf Sorceress. Now putting this mini together was a strange task, the cuts made to split the model up were in the strangest of places, but it was pretty easy to stick together.
I went for my usual scheme again, to tie the model into the whole army, and possibly hide her from some unwanted attention in the big game.

Here be Dragons

So I haven't updated things in a while, and I'm guessing that some of you will be wondering where I've been.

Well actually I've been rather busy, but I have been painting.

So what did I do, I hear you ask, well on Friday I decided I would set myself a challenge, could I manage to get not one but three dragons painted??

I started painting at about midday and finished at around midnight, and below are the results. Now I didn't actually get the whole of them done in the twelve hours. I had to wait for the bases to dry before I could get them painted up, so I only managed to get them completed on Monday night.

So what do you think??

How to get a Head or 5

So onto tonight's offering, now with the details of the big game getting more and more sorted out (we have even came up with a date for it) I'm starting to think 'whats going to be good for the game?' Now I'm not thinking of game winning things, just something that's going to make people who are around look in awe, and things that will be fun. With that in mind I've started with some monsters.

First up we have an old friend with a new paint job. I've tried to make the older Hydra match the scheme I've used on the new ones.

Brides of the Flame

So over the last week I've been working on touching up some of my Witch Elves (no it wasn't anything kinky before you ask), I have to say the painting isn't the best on them, but they were painted about 15 years ago.
To bring them in line with my newer looking force, I re-based and magnetized them as I'm doing with everything. I painted some blood and gore onto their blades and updated the banner. Now the banner itself didn't fit onto the banner pole properly, so I came up with an idea. I wanted one of the Witch Elf units to have the Flaming banner, I could sculpt some flames on the top to hit the big gap that was there. I think it turned out alright actually. What do you think?

Blood and Hooves

Well I have to say today has been a hell of a day for me. Work was just well strange with things happening that just defy explanation, and my head is now completely done in.

Today's dose of minis is the final unit from my Khorne Daemons, the Bloodcrushers. Let by its own herald this unit is heavy (in weight if nothing else).Again another pretty quick paint job on them, just to get them done withing the week, but as a whole they look pretty nice together. Or at least I'm happy with them.

Let there be blood!!

So to continue the Khorne theme here's Thursdays does of miniatures. These two units for the main force from my one week of Chaos army, The Bloodletters and Herald.

I decided to go for a quick and classic colour scheme, the red is quite simple, but it does the job.

Murder Hounds of Khorne

Well a bit of a change from the Dark Elves tonight, but not moving away from the fantasy theme. Here is a picture of my Khorne Flesh Hounds. These will be used during my Storm of Magic games as I believe that summoning daemons into your games will be allowed, or they may even just be allies. Won't know about that till Friday (If my book arrives).
These were part of an army I decided to build up a couple of years back, maybe even three years. I had a week off work and had an idea to paint up an army. Daemons were around at the time, and I loved the idea of a full Khornate force. So the Challenge was set, 1500pts of Khorne Daemons in a week :) .

Handbows Ahoy

For today here's something I did as a little experiment. Now I'm not a fan of the new Plastic Corsairs, I just feel they don't fit in with my army (I have loads of the metal ones anyways), but I was wanting to try out a unit of Handbows. I also wanted something that would fill the gap between the Corsairs and my Spearmen/Crossbowmen and so these guys came into being.
I go through fazes of liking them and not liking them. But I haven't really seen them in the whole army yet, so will have to wait and see. Will also have to wait and see how well they perform game wise.

Riders in the Night

Once the mainstay of Dark Elf armies Dark Riders now seem to be taking a rather backseat in my forces at the moment. 8th Ed has not been kind to our once famous cavalry. I painted these fellas when they were released soooo many years ago. Initially I only had five of them, but over time they needed to be reinforced, extra command (once they got released) added and all that.

Sunday, 3 July 2011

Today I have some pictures of another Dragon Rider. This guy was a bit of a challenge I set myself. While in my local GW I happened to mention that I'd painted up my last dragon in around 4 hours, well I got a few funny looks from staff as well as customers there. So I told them on my day off work I'd take in a dragon and paint it. This was the result. I started at around 12.30 and by 5.00 I'd was all done bar the basing.

Masters of the Kar

So for tonights, or should that be this mornings as it now almost 1am here, update. These are a couple of my Dark Elf Masters/Nobles. I've added a bit more colour to these guys, but still tried to keep the pallet limited and within the whole scheme of the army.
First up we have a Master with a hand-weapon and shield. I don't know why but I really like the way the base came out on this guy.
And secondly a Master with a Great-weapon. Now if only the rules allowed you to add a normal Master to a unit of Executioners this guy would fit perfectly. I know it's fluffy, but why the hell wouldn't you get Khanite characters other than the hags? Surely there should be an option to give characters a Khanite rule somewhere.
