Tokens and more

Well it's been another busy few days here in Carlisle, so had little time again to get much painting modeling done.

So out of the case I've grabbed some of my game markers.
These two were made up to be objective markers, a simple army pennant on a pole/spear.

These are some of my Cauldron markers, these three signify the unit having the 5+ ward save.
These three are for the unit having Killing blow (Think I may need to add some more blood). I do have another set for the +1 attack but forgot to take a photo of that so will add it to the next post.
These tokens are to put beside enemy units to signify the effects of Chillwind. I think I'm going to be making a few more for other spell effects once I get time.
And finally a hint at whats to come from the next case...

War Alter of Khaine

So having a few Cauldrons on my army I decided that I should really make a one stand out to be a bit more significant. I love the Forgeworld Avatar model and figured this would be a good place to start. I had also seen on the Crocodile Games site that Chris Fitzpatrick had sculpted a rather tasty 'Bathtime for Bubble' miniature. This set my mind rolling and the War Alter came into being.
I decided that since the Alter was a bit more special I should give it extra crew (will still use as a normal Cauldron though).

I also went from my normal silver colour scheme and added a lot of gold to make it stand out from the croud.

BLACK GUARD!!!

Good morning folks. Well I woke up early today for some unknown reason and decided to add a little something to my blog. Here's a picture of one of the Black Guard units from my elves. I went for a really simple scheme again, shying away from the purples and just making them black (well they are Black Guard). Again they've just had a little bit of touching up done on them and the addition of the magnets and new movement trays.

Warriors of the Kar

So for tonight's update I've decided to add a unit from my Core choices in the for of a Spearman Horde. Originally these guys were painted up with black armour, but last year I tried a new silvered scheme which I liked a lot more (and it's quicker to paint to boot), so these fella's got a new paint scheme and I added to the unit (increasing it to 40 men).
The Spearmen were sitting in GW Carlisle's window for quite a while, so when I pulled them out of the case there were a few things needing touched up, speartips missing, shields falling off. So they were reattached and I did a bit of magnetizing on them as well.
Also tonight, because I missed adding the picture yesterday is another Sorceress. This time the one from the last lot of new releases. I decided to paint the magic swirly bit in blood rather than smoke as I thought it would fit with the Dark Elves bloodthirsty reputation a bit more.

The Power of Magic

So with Storm of Magic on the doorstep I decided that it was time I got a few Wizards on the boards. These nare by no means my only Sorceresses, in fact there are many more to come, but these were laying in the case I opened so I decided to magnetize them and get them photographed for the blog.
For the Sorceress above I did a simple hand swap adding a sword hand from an old Cold One knight.
This Sorceress again had a hand swap, the item was from an old Dark Eldar miniature, I'm not to sure which because it was so long ago I did it.
And a standard Sorceress, with a Spell Familiar.
And the last one of the batch is an old Talisman Dark Elf Sorceress.

Warmachine the Computer Game

Well I've played Warmachine years ago, and still have all my metal Menoth Warjacks around somewhere, but I never knew anything about a computer game coming out until now. And I have to say this looks pretty sweet.

Templars Chaplain

Sorry about the lack of pictures the last couple of days, I was wanting to be adding pictures almost every day, as it would keep me trying to get things finished. But this week has been busy. And a work night out last night didn't help the matter (but it was fun).

So here's a picture from a while ago, my Black Templar Chaplain. I wanted him to look more noticeable than the standard Chaplain so I added the Librarian's back banner/book thing to him. The assistants are Warmachine Preists of Menoth I thought they would fit perfectly into the Templars.

Executioners

Over the last couple of days I've been working on two of my Executioner regiments. I decided that all of my Khanites should have bloodied weapons. So set about on Friday painting them, I really like how they've turned out.
I'm also in the process of organizing a huge game of Fantasy at GW Carlisle, the game will involve my Dark Elf Horde and Tzarinchilla's Warriors of Chaos. The basic idea is that we will have a table full of fully painted and based models on both sides, we will be the side of Destruction and anyone with painted forces of Order, no matter what they are can turn up and pitch them into the battle.

I haven't quite figured on Special characters (not too keen on them myself) or what to do about magic items, but there's plenty of time to sort that.

Dark Elf Warriors

Today's installment is a unit of Dark Elf Warriors. Now I know that under the new rules Dark Elves can't actually have just a hand weapon and shield, but I loved the way these minis looked when I made them, I really didn't want to pull them apart just because of the rules. I don't play competitive games so figured that most of my opponents wouldn't mind if I paid for Spearmen, and just used them as Warriors.

I've been debating today as to whether or not I should 'bloody up' the weapons of all the Elves. My original idea for the bloody weapons was to just give them to the Khainite regiments and characters, so I could tell easily which was and wasn't Khanite. But I do like the looks of the blood. I suppose I can leave it for now and come back to it at a later date.

World Eaters Land Raider

So as my friend Tzarinchilla asked for some pictures of big gribbly 40k stuff I had myself a wander to GW Carlisle to pick up my World Eaters. They had been on display in the cabinet there, for about 4 days, until an area manager dropped by and told them they had to remove them cause there were bits on them that were not GW made. Ah well :)

They got moved into the back store room, where I managed to forget to go pick them up. So 2 months later when asked for 40k stuff, I thought, hmmm that Land Raider would be good for that one. And so here it is.
I tried to keep it pretty simple and not too Chaosified (if that's a word) When I was doing the Eaters I didn't really want them to look too far gone, maybe being a few years after the turn to the dark side and still looking like the marines they were.
So after a little bit of repairs here's the first pictures in this blog of my World Eaters.

An old War

So over on my Warseer Blog I was asked to show some pictures of my whole painted army. Now last time I got everything out it took me the best part of a day to set it up and put it all away again. Something I just don't have time for at the moment. So I had a search about and found these pictures of an old game at GW Carlisle from 2008. The game ended up being played with around 20,000 points per side, my Dark Elves being allied with a friends (he brought about 1,000 points if I remember correctly). The game was a blast, and of course we won.

We had the strangest of alliances against us in the form of Chaos, Tomb Kings, Lizardmen, High Elves and Empire. (even a few Greater Daemons appeared throughout the game)

Fingers crossed we will get another game like this organised for later this year.

Terminator Librarian

Well as I've had a really long day at work and don't have the energy to add a lot tonight here's another off the shelf mini. It's a Terminator Librarian I painted up around the same time as the Templars. The plan was to sell the Librarian cause all I needed off him was the big book thing off him shoulders. (I anyone would like to buy him feel free to make an offer :)).

Dragonlord - Beastlord Rakarth

Loving the background story for Rakarth and basing my army around Karond Kar, I felt it would be a shame not to include him. Now although I do have the original model I felt like I should update him and add him to my unit of Dragonlords (yes I did say unit).

As you'll be able to see he shares a similar scheme to the rest of the army. I converted him from the High Elf Dragon kit, but thought that the rock was just not a good look, so removed it and made it a flying Dragon. (Having a few of them in the same pose would just look daft).

The Dark Emissary

Another mini that has a place in my heart (well what remains of it) is the Dark Emissary. This guy was and still is a pretty amazing sculpt by Chris Fitzpatrick. I painted this fella during the Dark Shadows Campaign that GW were running so so many years ago, and have just re-based him to match up with my current stuff.

When I see this guy, it reminds me of a game I had against a Skaven army where I had a whole Cavalry force (except him and a Fenbeast) I managed to break the Skaven in 2 turns and lost nothing. Not what my opponent was expecting.

Dreadlord - Lord Soulreaver

This has to be one of my Favourite Dark Elf minis, I'm not entirely sure why, but I just love it. I hold him as the overall leader of my army (except for Malekith of course) and have actually bought a second one to be mounted on a Dragon, a huge Dragon in fact.

I've tried to keep the colours pretty simple again, to tie him into the rest of the army, most of my warriors being silver/black/purple and my corsairs having the red sea dragon cloaks.

Again he was painted a little while ago and has just been re-based and magnetized.

Master - Shanaris Bloodstone

This model was done to represent a friends online character, although she looked different to that character. I use her as a commander for my Crossbows and Bolt Throwers a commander of the Watch character. Usually Equipping her with the Lifetaker.

I went for a simple black/metal scheme on her so that she fit in with the Crossbowmen. Re-based and magnetized and ready to roll again.

Storm of Magic Peeks

So here's some pictures pilfered off Warseer of the new add-on for Warhammer and I must say wow I can't wait.

Above is a picture of the new Dark Elf Dragon (I'll have three please) and the Cockatrice. I just love them, and I'm really going to have to find a way to get them into the army. The Dragons will be easy, although I have a load of converted High Elf ones on the block at the moment, but I suppose you can never have too many Dragons.

This spread shows the Dragon, and Cockatrice as well as the Chaos Manticore and Chimera, which I believe is actually a combined set allowing you to make up either. You can also see the new Sorceress and a couple of new Chaos Wizards.
Above shows the new Templates for Vortex, Dice and a rather nice looking Card box for your magic cards. My guess would be that some of these will be limited release.
And finally there's the new scenery for the Storm of Magic. Each one add some special abilities/spells or bonuses to a Wizard standing on it. They just look so nice.

This is shaping up to be a really nice add-on to the Warhammer game, and even if we don't get to play the extra scenarios that often these bits are going to be great to add to any collection.

Templar Marshall

Today especially for Stu here's a blast from the past in one of my Black Templar Sword Brethren Terminators. The idea at the time was to make up a 40k army made of Templar Terminators using the Deathwing rules. This guy was the 'counts as' Belial model.

I used the Lysander mini as a base, added some FW Templar bits, a resin base and a bit of Green Stuff and voila. The project then went on hold as I kind-of drifted out of the whole 40k scene for a while.

BSB of Karond Kar - Haasek Deathblade

So here's tonight's helping of Elfiness, it's another BSB, this time my Standard Bearer from Karond Kar. This is the limited edition mini from the old starter set. I love this mini and I'm so glad I have a couple spare to play around with at a later date.

This Guy was painted about two years back, and brought out again last year when I was going through my 8th Ed redux. He's had a little bit of re-basing and magnetizing this time around.

BTP Youtube Vid

So I've just sat down and watched this after a long day in school. Spent most of the day working on the kids reports, so was staring at a computer for the most part. Anyhow I got home and noticed this BTP batrep from their Valhalla weekend.

Now this is what I call a fun game, just what fantasy should be (that and it had Dark Elves in it). This brings back memories of the old GW days with the Bring-and-battle games. No OTT lists, no whining just bring along your painted stuff, guess the sides and have a fun night of gaming.

Have a watch and see what you all think, I know it's pretty long but give it a go.

Master - Kaldor Blackheart

So I've had a few busy days here meaning no painting getting done. This going to work for 9am and getting home after 10pm isn't good for painting minis. So that said here's an oldie that's had a bit of a touch up. Re-based, battle damaged cleared up and a new shield to match the rest of the army.

Assassins

For todays installment here's some Assassins to continue the Khainite theme. Again all magnetized up to go onto the trays.

I think Assassins con be one of the more trickier things to get a good scheme on, you really want to paint them black and shady, but for tabletop appeal you need to add a bit of colour to them. But too much colour and they just look wrong. I'm happy with how they turned out, they fit with the army and the rest of the Assassins I have.

Hag BSB - Hekarth Venomblade

So here's a picture of my Hag BSB, It's a miniature from Tabletop Art and it's pretty nice. There were a few flaws with her, and the details aren't as crisp as the Fitzpatrick Witch Elves but I think it does look awesome.

I've gone for a scheme to match my other Witch Elves and magnetized the base as well so she can fit to the movement trays. But that doesn't mean that she won't be accompanying a Cauldron at some point.

Witch Elves

So after a two hour basing spree this morning (and that was just giving them a white drybrush) this Witch Elves are done. I'm pretty happy with how they look all lined up.

I'm probably going to play them as a horde in games (there are 30 in the unit) but I've made up some movement trays to allow me to quickly reform them. I saw the idea over at Blue Table Painting, they are on two 5x2 trays and two 5x1 trays, which are flush with the bases and magnetized, (to the point I can hold them upside down) meaning it's easy to switch from horde 10x3 to a deep formation 5x6 in seconds.

A Grand Day Out

Well painting today kind of got put on hold as I had a day out with my best friend and her daughter, then meeting some mates for a night out at the cinema (great night guys, must do again soon).

I have gotten the unit painted up, and I'm just waiting for the snow to dry (odd concept) before giving it one last frosting and a varnish. Thins should get done in the morning once I get out of bed.
